Umpire recorded on a live microphone after being criticized by Mets' Carlos Mendoza

The MLB umpire is not infallible.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza had a humorous interaction with referee Chad Whitson during a game.

This occurred as Edwin Diaz was having some trouble against the Nationals hitters in the ninth inning of Thursday’s win.

Mendoza was not happy about a call on a pitch and decided to confront Whitson.

Though viewers couldn’t hear Mendoza’s words, Whitson’s response was quite clear.

“I can’t raise it!” Whitson exclaimed. “I’m not a magician!”

Whitson’s reaction, which was shared on social media, offered a light-hearted moment amidst the tension.

Some might agree that the pitch was likely a bit low in the strike zone.

Following that minor setback, Diaz managed to secure the game, leading to a 4-3 series-sweeping victory over the Nationals.

A referee scorecard from X indicated Whitson may have inadvertently favored the Mets, with an overall advantage reflecting a 1.29 run score.

While magic may not directly influence the game’s outcome, the Mets seem to be riding a wave of good energy.

The team is on fire, having won six straight games leading up to their matchup against the Rays.

During this impressive stretch, they delivered a complete game shutout, showcasing outstanding defensive efforts from players like David Peterson, Brandon Nimmo, Juan Soto, Jeff McNeill, and Tyron Taylor.

The surging Mets are set to kick off a three-game series against the Rays at Citifield on Friday night.
