UN Chief Calls For “Maximum Restraint” After Pahalgam Terror Attack

united nations:

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is calling on India and Pakistan to exercise “maximum control” to prevent further deterioration of tensions in the subcontinent following the terrorist attacks in Kashmir, his spokesman Stephen Dujarik said on Thursday.

“We are very appealing to both the Pakistan and the Indian governments to exercise maximum restraint and ensure that the situation and development we see do not get any worse,” he said.

“We were very clear in the condemnation of the terrorist attacks that took place in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

“I believe that the issues between Pakistan and India can be resolved peacefully through meaningful mutual involvement,” he said.

The frontline organization of Pakistan-based internationally banned terrorist group Lashkar e Toiba is mostly responsible for the attacks in which tourists were slaughtered.

India took action against Pakistan, expelled diplomats, cancelled several visas for each other’s citizens, shutting down trade, and Islamabad retaliated in kind.

Asked about India’s suspension of India’s water treaty by sharing river resources, Dujaric said, “This will seek maximum restraint under our rubric and will not take action to further aggravate the situation or increase tensions in a tense region.”

He said Guterres has not had direct contact with Indian and Pakistani leaders since the attack.

President Donald Trump took him to X and wrote, “The United States stands strong against India against terrorism. Prime Minister Modi and the people of India have full support and deep sympathy for us.”

French President Emmanuel Macron wrote to X: “A violent terrorist attack has hit India. We share the deep sadness of the victims’ families, and I express my sincere sadness.

British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer said, “The horrifying terrorist attacks in Kashmir are… totally devastating.”

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said, “Qatar has expressed strong condemnation and condemnation of the attack… The ministry extends its pacific dol to the families of the victims and the Indian government and people.”
