Gayle Benson Expresses Discontent Over Saints’ Performance
It’s clear that Gayle Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints, is serious about turning things around. In an unusual move, she publicly criticized her team after a disappointing 1-4 start to the season, calling the situation “not acceptable.”
During a discussion with the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club, Benson acknowledged the frustration among fans, noting that she has heard their concerns “very loudly,” especially after the team’s three-game losing streak. She emphasized that fans “deserve better.”
“Our fans invest their time and their hearts in the Saints,” Benson remarked, according to reports. “They are right to expect more than we have delivered.”
She addressed various franchise members, underlining that accountability starts with her. Benson asserted that there would be no excuses and insisted that she won’t “accept this level of performance as our standard.”
“Kellen Moore and his coaches are responsible for preparing our players to perform,” she stated. “Mickey Loomis and our football staff are responsible for building a roster capable of sustained success. Our players are responsible for their preparation and execution.”
Since Moore took the reins prior to the 2025 season, the Saints have recorded a dismal 7-15 record. Loomis, who has served as the general manager since 2002, hasn’t led the team to the playoffs since the end of the Sean Payton and Drew Brees era in 2020.
Benson also voiced her disappointment over the Week 4 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, highlighting how disheartening it was to lose on a night meant to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the team’s return to the Superdome post-Hurricane Katrina.
She referenced the tribute to Brees during the halftime of their recent game against the Minnesota Vikings, suggesting that “the best way to honor that legacy is to uphold [his] standards today.”
“Words will not restore our fans’ confidence,” Benson concluded. “Our performance must do that.”
It seems like the pressure is definitely on the team after her remarks.
