Unauthorized Immigrant Charged with Killing 3-Year-Old Nephew Whose Mother Left Him in the U.S.

Tragic Incident Involving Illegal Immigrant and Young Nephew

An illegal immigrant previously released into the U.S. by the Biden administration is now facing serious charges following the death of his 3-year-old nephew. The child was left behind by his mother, who was deported earlier this year.

Samuel Antonio Maldonado Eraso has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in Escambia County, Florida. Reports indicate that he recently took custody of his nephew after the boy’s mother, Wendy Esther Hernandez Reyes, was deported on January 26, opting not to bring her son with her.

Investigations reveal that Maldonado Eraso brought the young boy to work but failed to recognize the signs of severe distress the child was experiencing. The situation escalated into a tragic emergency, with the boy suffering cardiac arrest before emergency services were contacted.

Sadly, the child passed away in a nearby hospital as a result of what authorities have described as physical abuse inflicted by Maldonado Eraso. Medical examinations revealed the boy had suffered extensive injuries, including at least 17 impacts to the head, widespread bruising, intentional burn marks, a broken collarbone, severe damage to his pancreas from blunt force, and multiple broken ribs—one even severed from his spine.

“This crime is truly disgusting,” expressed Todd Lyons, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in a statement. He mentioned the suffering the boy endured while in the “care” of Maldonado Eraso. Lyons noted that the uncle is an illegal immigrant who should never have been allowed in the country. He further emphasized the importance of parents considering their children’s welfare, advocating for voluntary deportation when necessary.

Maldonado Eraso entered the U.S. illegally in August 2021 and was released into the country with his young daughter. ICE officials have also confirmed that his wife is in their custody, while their children are now with the Florida Department of Children Services.

Currently, Maldonado Eraso remains detained in the Escambia County Jail, with ICE taking steps to prevent his potential release.
