In Louisville, Kentucky, allegations have emerged that illegal immigrants were able to obtain driver’s licenses by paying $200 in cash. This claim comes from a former clergyman, Melissa Mooreman, who previously worked for government contractors at a licensed facility.
Mooreman reported that employees accepted under-the-table payments multiple times a day over at least a two-year period. After she disclosed the situation to Kentucky transport authorities, she claims she was fired. She mentioned that those reported were also dismissed late last year.
In her whistleblower lawsuit, Mooreman detailed that some workers misused their logins to issue licenses without proper homeland security checks and noted that illegal immigrants used fake documents to bypass the driver’s license exam. It’s important to highlight that, under current laws in the state, illegal immigrants cannot legally acquire a driver’s license.
Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron expressed his support for Mooreman’s allegations, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the rule of law. He remarked on the need for accountability and mentioned that this situation reflects broader issues with law enforcement that should be addressed.
Cameron, who is planning to run for the US Senate in 2026, praised Mooreman for her bravery in coming forward. He stated that it’s crucial for state officials to investigate how such violations occur and hold those responsible accountable.
