Fox News Anchor’s Run-In with D.C. Law Enforcement

Even the anchors at Fox News find themselves caught up in President Trump’s push for law and order in Washington, D.C.

Bret Baier, host of “Special Report” and chief political anchor for the network, was seen by a vigilant police officer while driving in Georgetown. He was picking up a ringing cell phone when the officer noticed him.

In a post on X, Baier shared, “I was driving my wife’s car in Georgetown, and I drove past the officer and picked up a ringing phone.” He mentioned that the officer was very professional but still issued him a ticket. “I was unaware there were paparazzi around,” he added.

According to a real estate company, this incident occurred just as Baier was getting into a white Mercedes-Benz G-Class, commonly known as a G-Wagon.

In Washington, D.C., like in many places, it is against the law to use a cellphone for texting or calling while driving unless the device has hands-free capabilities.

A Fox News representative directed inquiries to Baier’s social media post for comments.

Baier’s encounter with law enforcement happened shortly after he covered a key summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he traveled on Air Force One to Anchorage, Alaska. That same day, he managed to conduct an interview with Trump and later participated in activities like golf with the President.

On August 7, Trump started deploying federal law enforcement to D.C. to address rising crime rates, which included serious incidents involving civil servants. One notable case involved Edward Coristine, who was injured while trying to stop a carjacking.

By August 11, Trump had dispatched the D.C. National Guard and Metropolitan Police for a month to aid federal efforts.

Since these operations began, there have been hundreds of arrests, including 52 in one night, according to the administration. Those arrested included suspected members of the MS-13 gang.

The D.C. Police Union reported a significant drop in overall crime, estimating an 8% decrease since the implementation of Trump’s order.

Earlier, Trump had also stated his intention to seek Congressional approval for an extension of federal control over the Metropolitan Police for at least another 30 days.
