UNC Football GM Comments on Belichick-Hudson Relationship
Michael Lombardi, the General Manager of University of North Carolina Football, has decided to step back from discussing the relationship between Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson. During an interview with Tony Dokoupil, Hudson dodged questions about how she met Belichick, leading to significant backlash when it aired on “CBS News Sunday Morning” in April.
Lombardi, speaking on ESPN Radio’s “Marty & McGee,” dismissed the situation, stating, “A lot of that is just noise.” He emphasized that many of the rumors circulating are completely false and somewhat amusing. “Anyone who says these things gives credit. We’re just going to move on,” he added.
He also pointed out the importance of ignoring distractions that could harm the program, mentioning that they’ve experienced a successful offseason despite external chatter. “Noise often comes from those trying to undermine us. We won’t accept it,” Lombardi stated.
Belichick has clarified that Hudson does not play a role with UNC football and doesn’t appear on the sidelines during games. Lombardi praised the team’s recruitment efforts and the use of the portal, noting their continual improvement.
Reflecting on the interview’s initial airing, he insisted that there was no cause for concern linked to off-field drama. “Everyone seemed surprised to see them together, but we had no reason to retreat. It’s all about focusing on our goals,” he remarked.
Looking ahead, Belichick’s first game with UNC will be against TCU on September 1st, marking a new chapter for the program.
