Uncomfortable pause occurs after Lobo's 'America great' comment during WNBA broadcast

A moment of awkward silence unfolded during the ESPN broadcast of the Indiana Fever versus Las Vegas Aces game on Sunday after analyst Rebecca Lobo remarked, “that’s what makes America great.” This comment arose in response to a controversial foul call in the game’s final minute, which Lobo disagreed with.

Play-by-play announcer Pam Ward pointed out that not everyone shared Lobo’s viewpoint. Lobo immediately countered, saying, “They do, and I don’t agree with them. That’s fine, that’s what makes America great.” Following this exchange, there was an uncomfortable pause before Lobo suggested, “I should rephrase that.”

Ward recommended that she focus on “differences” instead. She even apologized before moving on with the game commentary.

Caitlin Clark’s struggles continued as the Fever faced the Aces. Clark, who had previously lost to the Golden State Valkyries, couldn’t find her rhythm in this matchup, finishing 10 of 10. Despite the Fever leading for most of the game, the Aces made a comeback in the fourth quarter, ultimately winning 89-81.

In this intense game, Clark scored 19 points, while A’ja Wilson shone for the Aces with 24 points. She was well-supported by Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray, who contributed significantly to turn the tide in the final quarter.

Although Clark faced a challenge creating scoring opportunities, her teammate Aliyah Boston managed to score 26 points on 19 attempts, making a notable impact on the game.

The Aces’ momentum carried them as they secured a critical victory, setting up an interesting matchup against the Seattle Storm in their next game.
