Venezuelan Immigrant Pleads Guilty in Fatal Missouri Crash

A Venezuelan immigrant has admitted guilt for a head-on crash in Missouri that resulted in the death of a young boy just shy of his 12th birthday.

Endurina Bracho, 34, was driving with her two children on December 20, 2023, when, reportedly, a Dodge van crossed into oncoming traffic in Hazelwood, a suburb of St. Louis, hitting her vehicle while exceeding the speed limit of 35 mph.

The impact was severe, causing significant injuries to Travis Wolf, who was in a jeep at the time. After spending several months on life support, he tragically passed away on March 6, 2024, just one day before his birthday.

Bracho’s children sustained serious injuries as well and were treated at the same hospital as Travis, while his parents underwent treatment for multiple fractures in another facility.

On Monday, Bracho entered a guilty plea to charges of first-degree involuntary manslaughter and second-degree assault in St. Louis County Circuit Court.

This “blind plea” indicates she agreed to plead guilty without any prior deal regarding her potential sentence, as noted by local news sources.

She is set to be sentenced on September 12, with prosecutors suggesting a prison term of up to 27 years.

In addition, prosecutors dropped two other serious charges related to child welfare and opted for two lesser misdemeanors.

Past court documents indicated that Bracho was in the U.S. illegally from Venezuela, though specific details about her arrival remain unclear.

Hazelwood police mentioned that the complexities surrounding her status hindered the investigation, making it challenging to confirm details about all the involved parties at the time.

The tragedy caught the attention of U.S. Senator Josh Hawley, who used Travis’s death to emphasize concerns about current immigration policies. He previously expressed on social media that such incidents illustrate the consequences of open borders, asserting the importance of acknowledging victims like Travis.
