An undocumented immigrant has been linked to a series of random shootings in Tennessee, with incidents occurring on highways and in Memphis, resulting in injuries to three individuals.
ENOC Martinez, a 24-year-old from Honduras living illegally in the U.S., was taken into custody in Shelby County, facing five counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Authorities report that he showed up at a residence in Memphis and then headed to Interstate 240, where he shot a man and recorded himself aiming at a random driver and passenger.
“He had a gun, standing by his car, pointing it through the driver’s window. It felt like, ‘Police, prisoner, prisoner!’” a witness shared with Wreg Memphis News.
Polk described Martinez as “murdering in his face” while the shooting took place.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed on Thursday, Martinez crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally as an unaccompanied alien child (UAC) in June 2014.
Afterward, he was transferred to the Refugee Resettlement Office and in 2022 was placed with an adult sponsor in the U.S. before being ordered deported by a federal immigration judge.
Martinez is currently held in Shelby County Jail on a $1 million bond, with his next court appearance scheduled for May 19th.
