Unexplained noise from NYC troubling residents in NJ

It’s not exactly soothing.

A loud and puzzling stream of music has been echoing through a quiet town in New Jersey for weeks now. Some locals believe the noise can even be heard from a mile away in Manhattan.

Police in Edgewater report that parties in New York City are blasting loud music that travels over the Hudson River, disturbing residents trying to sleep. Yet, no one has pinpointed the exact source of these sounds.

“It’s really frustrating, especially for parents juggling kids and work,” Ben shared. Living just half a mile from the waterfront, he frequently wakes up to the noise of what sounds like a midnight party.

“At first, I thought it was coming from the street nearby or the apartment complex across the way. When I found out there were about 100 calls to the police and that the music came from New York, I was shocked. It felt like it was right outside my window,” he explained.

Residents reported that the music first blared on a Saturday night last October, starting around 11:30 p.m. and going until 5 a.m.

Initially, it seemed to be a one-time event, but then it happened four weeks in a row this past February.

According to the police, they received numerous complaints about “loud music coming from New York,” noting that the noise persisted from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

“It was so loud it felt like there was a concert happening outside. My husband even went out to check, but it was hard to see anything,” a neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted.

“Honestly, I’m just worn out. I’ve got two little ones and a six-month-old, so mornings are rough,” she added.

Reports indicate that New York City police traced the noise back to a nightclub called Skinny’s Cantina on the Hudson, located across the river in West Harlem.

Interestingly, the club has been closed since the beginning of the year after being sold to new owners.

“There hasn’t been any activity there,” said Joseph Rickle, the previous owner of the lounge.

The NYPD hasn’t confirmed if other noise sources have been identified, despite Edgewater police observing this issue.

Many exhausted residents were relieved to finally have a quiet Saturday recently, but a lack of communication between departments leaves them skeptical about how long the peace will last.

“Every time I contact [the NYPD], they just say they’ll investigate it, but they seem unsure. It feels like I’m explaining this to them for the first time. It’s frustrating,” one resident expressed.

“There’s no real action being taken between the Edgewater Police and the NYPD on this.”
