A notable supporter of Spencer Pratt was seen trying to steal some attention during a media event with the Los Angeles mayoral candidate on Tuesday night. This individual, Jonathan Melis, has a controversial history as he is a convicted drug trafficker linked to the events of the January 6th riot.
Melis, who could be seen smiling behind Pratt as security personnel escorted him away while Pratt conducted a live interview, drew criticism from viewers familiar with his past.
Having pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, Melis also comes with a notable criminal history, including charges for domestic violence and a conviction related to methamphetamine distribution, as noted by reports.
After the incident, Melis took to social media to express that he felt he was “assaulted” at the event, sharing a video that showed security escorting him out. There was a brief altercation while security was leading him away, and he appeared to fall to the ground.
Melis, a vocal supporter of Pratt, had previously shared his views with NBC News over drinks, expressing strong opinions about the political situation in Los Angeles. He mentioned, “We’re speaking out against communism and socialism; it has turned our cities into a mess. This is not a coincidence. They did it by design. Karen Bass is trying to harm our city, so it’s refreshing to see someone like Spencer Pratt.”
There were moments during the interview when Pratt’s supporters, referred to as “the Pratt brothers,” seemed to distract from the conversation, prompting interruptions despite attempts from the interviewer to steer things back on track.
As Pratt spoke, he quietly smiled while nodding along, but then turned to address Melis with an “Excuse me, sir,” as a figure approached him from behind. Following this, Pratt moved away awkwardly, attempting to continue responding to questions.
