Members of a Pennsylvania labor union were offered a “$100 allowance” to attend a recent campaign rally for Democratic lawmakers, according to leaked text messages obtained by police. Washington Free Beacon.
According to news media, the local chapter of the International Union of Bricklayers has called on members to attend a rally to show their support for U.S. Representative Susan Wild (Democrat), who is running against Pennsylvania Representative Ryan McKenzie (Republican) in the upcoming election.
“Let's raise the union flag”
On September 7, Wilde held a campaign rally in Allentown. XWilde thanked union members who attended the event and shared photos of himself with some of them.
“What a great start to the morning! Thank you to all the union leaders, members and volunteers who came together today to discuss what this election means for workers and then went door to door! You are on my side and I will always be on yours,” the congressman wrote.
But leaked text messages provided to the Free Beacon revealed that Randy Eberly, secretary-treasurer of the union's local chapter, offered incentives to members who attended Wilde's campaign rallies.
The message, allegedly written by Eberle, read: “Everyone, there will be a Labour rally/campaign launch for Susan Wilde on Saturday September 7th at 10am.”
“Those who wish to participate will receive a $100 stipend if they wear a union flag,” the message added.
The Free Beacon noted it was unclear whether Wilde knew the benefits were being given to union members; neither her campaign nor the union responded to the question. Request for CommentsThe media reported.
Last year, the Democratic House Campaign Committee said Wilde had a “low chance” of losing. NBC News Reported.
In 2022, Wilde defeated Republican rival Lisa Scherer by just two points, the most expensive House race ever, according to Federal Election Commission records.
But the latest polls The Hill Wilde has an 83% chance of beating MacKenzie. As of June, Wilde has raised more than $3.5 million, while MacKenzie has only collected just over $300,000.
