Former Rep. David Jolly (R-Fla.) said Monday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that there is a “unique shame” in Republicans who “put a face implant in Donald Trump’s lap.” He said there is.
Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio) said while discussing President Trump’s NATO comments on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” Donald Trump’s political rallies don’t actually reflect Donald Trump’s actual policies. ”
Anchor Alicia Menendez said, “Aside from the problem, David, they do that a lot.”
“I think it’s uniquely shameful to see Mike Turner, Tim Scott, Lindsey Graham and others making these kinds of apologies for their own political gain,” Jolie said. Putting your face in Donald Trump’s lap. From Graham to Scott to Mike Turner to Elise Stefanik, they’re doing it very well. There’s a unique sense of shame in that.”
He added: “But I think what we can’t overlook, and this is part of what we’re seeing from Mike Turner, is that the orthodoxy of the Republican Party has been changing over the decades. Now. I don’t think that the Republican Party sees Russia as an adversary. I don’t think they see Vladimir Putin as particularly evil. And that’s a shift from Republican orthodoxy. What’s so interesting is that while it’s concerning, there is certainly a national security interest for the United States and the West, and there is a possibility that if the Republicans were to come to power, or if Donald Trump ultimately came to power. I don’t think you can count Vladimir Putin as an enemy if you’re in the White House.”
Jolie added, “Today’s Republican Party accepts America’s weakness. They are comfortable turning a blind eye and giving fairness to Vladimir Putin and Russia. It’s just a matter of legitimacy. It’s not a linchpin, it’s a new chapter in republicanism, and they’re willing to move through this chapter of American weakness. I hope voters see a difference there.”
