United Airlines plane collides with pole and truck while approaching Newark airport

Collision Before Landing at Newark Liberty International Airport

Recently, a United Airlines international flight faced a significant incident while approaching Newark Liberty International Airport. Flight 169, which originated in Venice, Italy, collided with a utility pole and a tractor-trailer at around 2 p.m. on Sunday. Thankfully, all 221 passengers onboard were unharmed, and the aircraft managed to land safely after the mishap.

Footage from inside the bakery truck, en route from Baltimore to a New Jersey warehouse, illustrates the shocking moment when the plane’s landing gear struck the vehicle, propelling it onto the highway.

Despite the severe circumstances, the truck driver only suffered minor injuries from broken glass and was taken to a local hospital, according to Chuck Paterakis, the senior vice president of transportation and logistics for the bakery.

United Airlines confirmed in a statement that the plane hit a utility pole while making its final approach. Fortunately, the aircraft taxied safely to the gate without injuries reported among passengers or crew members.

Following the incident, United Airlines hired maintenance teams to inspect the aircraft for any damage and conduct a thorough safety review. The crew has been temporarily relieved from duty.

New Jersey State Police have indicated that the investigation is still active, and they have not released any further details.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has acknowledged the collision and is currently looking into the matter. Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also investigating the event, with officials slated to arrive at Newark shortly.

The NTSB stated that United Airlines has been instructed to secure and relay both the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder to aid in their examination. A preliminary report summarizing the incident is anticipated within the next thirty days.
