UnitedHealth Group grieving loss of CEO Bryan Thompson gunned down in manhattan

UnitedHealth Group announced Thursday that it is mourning the loss of CEO Brian Thompson, who was shot by a lone gunman in broad daylight outside a Midtown Manhattan Hilton earlier this week.

The company said Mr. Thompson was a “highly respected colleague and friend to everyone he worked with.”

On Thursday, the health care company released its second statement since the incident, thanking Americans across the country for their kind words and sympathy.

“Our hearts are broken and we have been touched by the outpouring of kindness and support in the hours since this horrific crime occurred,” the statement said.

“So many patients, consumers, healthcare professionals, associations, government officials, and other caring people have taken time out of their day to reach out to us. We are saddened and grateful.” they continued.

New York City police have been hunting the suspect since early Wednesday morning.

A suspect wanted in a brutal slaying is believed to have used a fake New Jersey ID to check into a New York City hostel before the brazen execution-style slaying, police said. told FOX News.

Officials said the suspect used a fake ID and paid in cash.

UHG said the incident does not affect the company's operations and that families come first in emergencies.

“Our priorities are first and foremost to support Brian's family, ensure the safety of our employees, and work with law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice,” they said. “At UnitedHealth Group, we will continue to be there for the people who depend on us for health care.”

The company also asked the public to allow the family space to grieve.

“We ask that you respect the privacy of the entire family as they mourn the loss of their husband, father, brother, and friend,” the company said in a statement.
