University Involved in Charlie Kirk's Assassination Increases Police Presence

Increased Security at Utah Valley University After Event Tragedy

Utah Valley University (UVU) has ramped up its security measures following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on the campus on September 10th.

A spokesperson for UVU informed that the university plans to hire eight additional police officers and two security managers to enhance oversight and support during campus events. This decision comes after the university faced significant criticism regarding its safety protocols in the wake of Kirk’s shooting.

According to Ellen Treanor, UVU’s vice president for strategic communications, university police are crucial in ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. “They enforce laws and uphold our values of respect, integrity, and inclusivity,” she said. The officers also focus on crime prevention and community engagement.

Concerns about security had been raised several years prior to this tragic event. Reports indicated that UVU, with its 46,000 students, was understaffed in terms of police presence. On the day of the shooting, only six officers were available on campus.

Kirk, who was recognized for initiating dialogues with left-leaning students about controversial issues, was tragically killed while speaking in front of an audience of about 3,000 people.

In recent months, numerous universities have dealt with false reports of armed individuals on their campuses, causing panic and wasting police resources. Some institutions have increased their security measures, particularly after staff faced backlash for mocking Kirk’s death.
