University of Wisconsin-Madison’s ex-diversity officer scrutinized over spending, judgement amid DEI crackdown

The former Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has shown a “material lapse” of judgment and financial responsibility as state and federal lawmakers seek to eradicate diversity, equity and inclusion programs in education, according to the report.

According to the local outlet, Love Charleston was removed from his role as Chief Diversity Officer in January, but he remains as a teacher. Fox 6.

Internal reports reveal that Charleston has seen most of its employees have been raised from 10% to 23% without justification as state lawmakers were trying to crack down on University of Wisconsin's university DEI initiative.

Also, the outlet says Charleston spent $18,000 on massage therapy for students and $21,000 at a meeting in a resort city on Lake Geneva.

In December, Charleston said the former Provost had instructed him to spend a $6 million surplus.

According to an internal report, Charleston's spending per employee was the highest on campus.

This comes as President Donald Trump aims to end DEI programs across the country, including higher education.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is one of around 50 universities that the Department of Education has been investigated by the Department of Investigation for accusations of racism by excluding certain races from certain programs.

Institutions were warned that they could lose federal money more than racially-based preferences in admissions, scholarships, programs, or other activities. The department's research focuses on university partnerships with the PhD Project, a nonprofit organization that encourages black, Hispanic and Native American professionals to pursue a doctorate of business.

The Trump administration argues that the DEI program violates Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, excludes white and Asian American students.
