Dutch Designer Gains Attention with Knicks Merchandise
A relatively unknown Dutch designer has recently made waves after a friend’s Knicks T-shirt was spotted at Madison Square Garden, catching the eye of an acquaintance of team owner Jim Dolan.
Georgine Ratelband’s “I’m a New York Knicks Girl” shirt, priced at $295, along with five other luxury items from her collection, are now available at the MSG team store. This launch comes just ahead of the Knicks’ advance to the NBA Finals.
“The timing is amazing,” Ratelband, 37, shared excitedly. “I’m really thrilled about it.”
Her Knicks collection features various items, including a $160 crewneck sweater, $385 hoodie, $425 pants, $900 sequin jacket, and a $1,450 leather jacket. Sports stars, including Shannon Hart, the wife of Knicks player Josh Hart, and former Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, have already purchased pieces from the line.
“One of my favorite moments was when Henrik posted a picture of his daughters in my hoodie—it was such a great courtside shot,” she recalled.
Additionally, she noted that Josh Hart’s wife also wore her shirt, highlighting the fact that these purchases were made without any gifts from her. “That just makes it even more special,” she added.
Ratelband is also the founder of the luxury fashion label Georgene. In 2011, she began incorporating sports-themed tees into her collections, responding to customer demand for stylish yet comfortable attire for sporting events.
“My clients often say they want to look cute but not overly dressed,” she explained. “As the sports scene grows, we women want to be included too.”
Back in April 2025, Ratelband gifted her first hand-embroidered “I’m a New York Knicks Girl” T-shirt to a friend for a playoff game against the Detroit Pistons.
“A friend of Mr. Dolan’s shared it with an MSG executive, who gave it to the product manager,” she detailed. “Next thing I knew, I received several messages saying, ‘We love that shirt. How many can we get?’ I told them I’d only made one!”
Quickly, Ratelband reached out to her Italian factory to place a larger order.
Previously, her shirt was sold only at MSG’s exclusive Delta Lounge, but after its initial success, she was asked to design additional Knicks merchandise.
“I put together a presentation with my sketches and ideas—it was nerve-wracking because the meeting room was huge, full of people. Thankfully, they loved everything,” she reflected.
Having moved from the Netherlands to New York in 2014, Ratelband feels a deeper connection with the Knicks brand, noting that “knickerbockers” refers to the trousers worn by the first Dutch settlers in the 1600s.
“Being Dutch, this collaboration feels just right,” she said.
