How Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris handles “unscripted moments” in Tuesday night's debate with former President Donald Trump will be “very revealing,” Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic independent and former Rep. from Hawaii, said in an interview. Gabbard Participated She sat down with moderator Mike Slater on Monday to discuss her decision to leave the Democratic Party and support Donald Trump, as well as how she's preparing for Trump's first televised debate with Harris — especially following the heated exchange between Gabbard and Harris during the 2019 Democratic primary debates from which Harris' campaign never recovered.
“It was clear to me at that point in the campaign that the mainstream media and elite Democratic Party leadership had given her preferential treatment. No one challenged her record,” Gabbard recalled of the exchange in 2019. “…It was very similar to when Hillary Clinton ran for president in 2016. Everyone said she was the most qualified person in American history to be president. They listed her various titles in government but never questioned her combative record.”
“This will be the same challenge that Kamala Harris faces in tomorrow's debate. She's been vice president for the last three and a half years. She has a very clear track record on all the important issues that concern the American people most, both at home and abroad. She's trying very hard to run away from them,” she added.
“President Trump also has a very clear record on these issues during his first term in office, so she will have to face off. President Trump knows her record very well. She will have to answer tough questions about why she didn't fix the things that she now claims are broken,” she continued.

Gabbard said in 2019 that Harris “She seemed completely unprepared to answer about her record” — a mistake she will likely never make again.
“Kamala will be saying very well-rehearsed lines, and I'm sure what she's doing right now is memorizing those lines and getting grilled by a Donald Trump surrogate,” she said.
“But just as I did with her in 2019, this is going to be very revealing to see what she does in those unscripted moments, how she responds to truths and facts that Donald Trump doesn't want the American people to know.”
Gabbard noted that Trump is struggling because the media is “already paving the way for him to get through this with what they're calling a 'vibes' campaign,” and that Harris has faced little pressure for changing policy positions or her refusal to talk to the media.
Breitbart News reported that Harris Since joining the campaign seven weeks ago, on July 21, 2024, Harris has given just one interview (pre-recorded). In those seven weeks, Harris Changed Her position is a complete reversal, with her position unclear in nine areas.

- Decriminalization Crossed the southern border illegally (a cause he reportedly no longer supports, according to an anonymous campaign spokesman).

- Federal Job Guarantee (An anonymous campaign spokesman said he no longer endorses her.)
- Medicare for All (Changed his attitude)
“So if she has new information, we expect leaders to evolve and learn when presented with new information,” Gabbard said, “But that's the problem with Kamala Harris. Nothing of that is happening, either directly or indirectly through her staff, and she's not putting herself in a position to speak to the American people.”
She continued: “It's a huge insult to voters across the country and one of the things I think shows her arrogance. [into] Watching that CNN interview, I got the feeling that in Kamala Harris' mind, she was honoring us, the voters, with her 16 minutes of presence. [29] “She actually spoke for only a few seconds during the interview. Somehow, we were lucky enough to hear from her. In reality, we are the ones who are in the position to hire you. We need to know more about who you are and what you really believe.”
As for how Trump should handle Tuesday's debate, Gabbard said he should act similarly to how he did in his debate with President Joe Biden, which ultimately revealed Biden's declining cognitive abilities and hastened the end of his reelection campaign.
“Whatever happens to Joe Biden, [Trump] “He didn't make personal attacks. He was hyper-focused on the issues that matter most to the American people and continued to remind voters of the truth of Joe Biden's record. He will do the same with Kamala Harris and will not tolerate the lies she is telling the American people,” Gabbard said.
“President Trump is looking forward to this debate. He knows her history. He knows these issues. He talks about them almost every day,” she continued.This will be the first time that the American people will be confronted directly with the truth about Kamala Harris' record, which is often the polar opposite of the rhetoric she uses.”
