Important Events
6 mins Ronald Araujo kicks a cross-field pass straight out of the playing area. What do you have to do for Ronnie?
3 minutes Endrick spins Olivera beautifully in the centre circle and is pulled backwards, and he could have been booked at Fort Hatfield.
3 minutes Uruguay started fast as expected, forcing Brazil into a frenzy all over the pitch.
2 minutes There will be no extra time in the quarter-finals and semi-finals. If the score is tied after 90 minutes, matches will go straight to penalties.
1 minute Endrick takes the first kick of what is likely to be a great quarterfinal. As we see it, Brazil is kicking from left to right.
A lovely hug before the match The showdown will be between Uruguay manager Marcelo Bielsa and Brazilian winger Rafinha, who previously played together in a thrilling match at Leeds United.
A heartwarming moment for Leeds United fans! 🥹⚪

“With Vini Junior suspended,“The only No. 7 on the pitch is Uruguay’s Nicolas de la Cruz,” Peter Oh wrote, “and there’s no 77 to fit into the Las Vegas-style 777. For reference, Araujo’s 20 beats Brazil at blackjack.”

Uruguay vs Brazil It especially reminds me of the Maracana game. For those unfamiliar with the 1950 World Cup final, this is a crazy story.

Rob will be here shortly, in the meantime here’s a quick preview of tonight’s match from Reuters.
Uruguay manager Marcelo Bielsa has urged his team to be determined to dominate when they face Brazil.
Uruguay, who topped Group C after winning all three of their group stage matches and scoring eight goals, are hoping to reach the semi-finals and their coach will be hoping to implement his high-pressing, attacking style against Brazil.
“Usually I focus on which sector of the pitch to play in, how to win the ball back, if and how to threaten the opponent and if the way we structure the attack is the style I want my team to play,” Bielsa said in a press conference on Friday.
The manager also said the absence of suspended Vinicius Junior from the Brazil national team would not be a problem for the team’s strategy, describing the player as the best winger in the world.
“Personally, I don’t think his absence will affect us. Brazil is a country with a lot of wingers at both ends of the pitch right now, playing for the big teams around the world. Endric, Brazil’s understudy, will not be easy to neutralise in Vinicius’ absence.”
Bielsa, who missed the 1-0 win over the United States due to a suspension from the South American Football Confederation, added that his absence made no difference as the opposition only threatened in the final 10 minutes. “If I had been on the pitch the result wouldn’t have been better.”
