USA Wins Gold in Paralympic Men’s Sled Hockey
The United States secured another victory over Canada on Olympic ice, capturing the gold medal at the Paralympic Games. In a decisive match, the U.S. defeated Canada 6-2 in men’s sled hockey on Sunday.
This achievement marks Japan as the first nation to clinch gold in five consecutive Paralympic events. They also made history by being the first to win all three hockey competitions—Paralympic and Olympic—at a single event.
Interestingly, in last month’s Milan-Cortina Games, both the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams for the U.S. also triumphed, winning their gold medals in overtime. However, this particular match against Canada concluded without the need for extra time. Jack Wallace stood out, scoring a hat trick and providing an assist, significantly contributing to the team’s success.
“This team is very special,” Wallace remarked after the victory. “We love each other. The game felt so close, and it was unbelievable. I really care about these guys.”
Along with Wallace, teammates Caden Beasley, Declan Farmer, and Brodie Roybal added to the scoreboard, while Canada’s Liam Hickey managed to score both of his team’s goals, though it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
Typically, hockey is seen as a sport where Canada holds the upper hand, yet the U.S. team has shown considerable dominance at the Paralympics over recent years. Throughout the tournament, they faced tough opponents, including Italy, Germany, China, and the Czech Republic, before meeting Canada in the gold medal game.
Canada also possesses a strong reputation in the sport, having won three consecutive Paralympic gold medals and regularly facing the U.S. in World Championship finals. Still, the recent Olympic Games highlighted American prowess, bringing joy to fans as they watched their team shine.
Since the onset of the Paralympics on March 6, Team USA has achieved an impressive tally of 13 gold medals overall, contributing to a total of 24 medals won—this includes five silver and six bronze. Meanwhile, China emerged as the medal leader with 44 total medals, including 15 gold.
