US aid to Ukraine will not change situation on battlefield, Russia says

  • The Kremlin said new U.S. military aid to Ukraine would not change the status quo on the Russian-dominated front.
  • The U.S. House of Representatives has approved more than $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, which was delayed due to a shortage of ammunition for Kiev’s military.
  • Russia sees the U.S. defense industry as the main beneficiary of the aid package and expects most of the money to remain in the United States.

The Kremlin said on Monday that new U.S. military aid to Ukraine would not change the situation on the front, where Russia has the upper hand.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Saturday approved more than $60 billion in new aid to Ukraine that had been held up in Congress for months, causing an ammunition shortage for Kyiv’s military.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: “Russian armed forces are improving their positions on the front lines… The allocated funds and supplied weapons will not change this dynamic.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Sunday urged the United States to swiftly pass legislation and move forward with actual arms transfers, saying long-range weapons and air defense systems are a top priority.

“I think this support will really strengthen the Ukrainian military and give us a chance of victory,” Zelensky said.

Russia claims that the US defense industry will be the real beneficiary of this package.

“We also recognize that a large part of this money will remain in the United States. The United States will become richer and receive additional dividends from the support for Ukraine. For President (Vladimir) Putin, This was expected.”
