The Army was one of the three largest services to miss its recruiting goals last year, making it the smallest in size since before World War II.

The Army has missed its recruiting goals for the past two years, falling 10,000 short of its 2023 target, a 20% shortfall, Vox reported.

The active-duty Army currently has 445,000 soldiers, 41,000 fewer than in 2021 and the lowest number since 1940.

The Navy and Air Force also missed their recruiting goals for 2023, leaving the Marines as the only force to do so. The Space Force, though smaller, also met its recruiting goals.
