The U.S. Army confirmed Wednesday that it is investigating the cause of death of a U.S. soldier who died while stationed in Poland.

Lt. Col. Joshua Kamara, 45, was stationed at Kościuszko Garrison, the forward headquarters of the 5th Corps in the city of Poznań. He died on Tuesday, 3 September.

An AV Corps spokesman said Camara had been a public affairs officer with V Corps since June 2024. Camara was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal and Meritorious Service Medal, among other decorations.

“Our thoughts and sympathies go out to Lt. Col. Josh Kamara's family, friends and teammates during this difficult time,” Col. Kevin Jackson, V Corps chief of staff, said in a statement. “He was an outstanding leader and mentor, and we will never forget his service and impact.”

TVP WorldPoland's English-language news network reported that Kamara was found inside an apartment near the Kościuszko garrison early Wednesday morning after military police raided the property.

The report described Kamara as a “senior officer” but did not name him. It quoted Poznan's deputy district attorney for military affairs, Colonel Bartosz Okoniewski, who said the evidence pointed to “manslaughter” rather than murder.
