US citizen who faked his own death to avoid rape charges extradited to Utah

A US fugitive who faked his own death and fled rape charges by traveling around the world has finally been extradited from Scotland to Utah. He was previously seen sitting in a wheelchair with a breathing apparatus attached to his mouth and nose.

Nicholas Rossi (real name Nicholas Alaverdian) was charged with sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend in Orem, Utah. According to reports, the incident took place in 2008. Associated Press. The 36-year-old has also been charged with domestic violence in Rhode Island.

Prosecutor David Levitt said Rossi is reportedly scheduled to travel to Utah on Friday to stand trial in Utah County on charges of felony rape.

Levitt said: ”[t]”Today is a great day,” he continued, thanking his staff for their efforts in bringing Rossi back to the United States for prosecution.

Blaze News previously reported that Alavardian was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in July 1987. During his childhood, he spent a significant amount of time in the child welfare system associated with the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth, and Families. He was said to have suffered abuse within the system and later became a prominent advocate of departmental reform. He was known to many politicians in the state.

Alaverdyan was then adopted by his stepfather, David Rossi, and took the surname Rossi. He studied at Sinclair University in Dayton, Ohio, where he was accused of convicted of sexual coercion and public indecency in 2008.

It was in 2019 that Rossi claimed to have been diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. In February 2020, an obituary was published announcing the death of a man named “Nicolas Alaverdian.” obituary suggested Many Rhode Island politicians paid tribute to a man they believed fought for child welfare reform.

In December 2021, less than two years after his death was announced, the DNA of a man admitted to a Glasgow hospital with coronavirus matched Rossi's DNA. However, the Scottish man denied being Rossi and claimed his name was Arthur Knight.

Hospital staff immediately recognized Knight after being shown a photo of Rossi. Knight also had the same tattoo as Rossi. Knight turned out to be Rossi in disguise, but he was quickly arrested and detained in a Scottish prison.
