The US military launched a “self-defense” attack on Monday targeting two Houthi explosive unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), officials said.
U.S. Central Command said in a statement that it determined the explosives were found in Yemen’s Houthi-held areas and posed an “immediate threat to U.S. naval vessels and commercial vessels in the region.”

The strike took place at 3:30 p.m. local time. Officials did not say whether the USV was destroyed or whether there were any casualties.
On Sunday, the U.S. military announced it had carried out two strikes against the Iranian-backed Houthis, including strikes against anti-ship cruise missiles, both of which were preparing to fire at ships in the Red Sea, Centcom said.
US and coalition forces in the region have begun to take a more aggressive stance against the Houthis, who have disrupted the region’s global shipping industry with constant attacks on commercial ships.
The organization claims the attack is a response to the war between Israel and Hamas.
