In January, the number and share of foreign-born US population or immigrant population reached record highs, according to the report.
Data from the government's current census “shows that the foreign-born or immigrant population (legal and illegal) reached 53.3 million and 15.8% of the US population in January 2025,” according to the Center for Immigration Research (CIS) think tank.
“Unlike border statistics, CPS measures the number of immigrants in the country, which actually determines the impact on society. Without adjusting for those overlooked in the survey, we estimate that illegal immigrants have accounted for 5.4 million or two-thirds of the growth of the 8.3 million foreign-born population since President Biden took office in January 2021.
“The enormous scale of legal and illegal immigration has a major impact on many issues, from school and public funding to the workforce and housing markets,” he added. “Perhaps the most basic question these figures raise is whether the US can already integrate and assimilate all immigrants here, not to mention that we will continue to welcome additional newcomers each year.”

The Sith said “At 15.8% of the total US population, the share of foreign-borns is now higher than its previous peaks reached in 1890 and 1910, and “US government surveys and censuses have never shown such a large foreign-born population.”
The Census Bureau cited two years ago that it predicted foreign-born stocks in the US population would not reach 15.8% until 2042.
“53.3 million foreign-born residents are the largest number in history in the history of the United States, and the 8.3 million increase over the past four years is greater than the growth in the past 12 years,” he continued. “In the past four years, Latin America has accounted for an increase of 58% (4.9 million) of foreign-born people, 12% (958,000) in India, 8% (690,000) in Middle East and 7% (621,000) in China.”

The chart released by CIS, citing government data, shows that the US foreign-born population has increased by 2.9 million in former President Barack Obama's first term, 3.4 million for the second time, 1.6 million during President Donald Trump's first term, and 8.3 million in the Biden administration.
“Of course, in the second half of the Trump administration, Covid has significantly reduced immigration, so he can see his four years as artificially low,” CIS said.

It also said that 60% of U.S. immigrants are employed, with “331.7 million migrant workers in January 2025, accounting for nearly 20% of all workers.”
