An 85-year-old man was arrested in the United States on suspicion of stabbing his 81-year-old wife to death because she didn't want to eat the pancakes she made for him.according to statement Stephen Schwartz killed his wife, Sharon Schwartz, with a kitchen knife on December 10, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. The 81-year-old was found with stab wounds inside her home in Washington, D.C., and Schwartz was also found inside her home suffering from “self-inflicted injuries.”
Schwartz allegedly stabbed an 81-year-old man with a chisel because of his eating habits.according to ABC7told investigators that his ability to exercise and eat had changed “significantly” after a recent stroke, and that his wife was trying to feed him to help him gain weight back.
On the morning of the stabbing, Schwartz said his wife was trying to feed him pancakes and told him he couldn't have them. After stating that he did not eat sugary breakfast items, Schwartz told investigators that after hearing a plate hit the wall, he grabbed a chisel and threatened to cut himself with it. He reported that his next memory was of his wife lying on the ground.
“I killed her, oh Lord. I don't remember it being a crazy fight!” the man reportedly said as he sat in the back seat of a police cruiser.

After the incident, a neighbor heard screams coming from inside the house and called the couple's son. “I stabbed her and then I stabbed myself,” Schwartz said before handing the knife to her son. He reportedly also stabbed himself before officers deployed a Taser and disarmed the 85-year-old man.

He and his wife were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Schwartz was pronounced dead. A subsequent autopsy report found that she had been stabbed once in the back and that the blade had pierced her heart.
Schwartz was released from the hospital and arrested Thursday. He is charged with second-degree murder while armed. “The defendant did not want to eat the pancakes she had made, so he stabbed her in the back,” the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia said in her statement.
Mr. Schwartz has pleaded not guilty. He is being held without bond. The next public hearing will be held on January 2, 2024.
