U.S. Marshals arrested a woman Thursday on suspicion of killing her 5-year-old son and stuffing his body in a suitcase in 2022, officials announced.

DeJoan Anderson was arrested in Arcadia, Los Angeles County, California, on a warrant issued by the state of Indiana as he attempted to board a train, Indiana State Police said.

She is charged with murder, abandonment of a dependent resulting in death and obstruction of justice, all felonies.

Anderson was found after authorities received a tip from a “concerned citizen” that he was in California.

The body of Cairo Jordan, 5, was found inside a suitcase in April 2022 in rural southern Indiana, about 55 miles northwest of Louisville, Kentucky. Authorities believe he was killed in Kentucky and his body dumped in Indiana.

State police said an autopsy determined Cairo died of vomiting and diarrhea that led to dehydration.

Another woman, Dawn Coleman, was arrested in October 2022. She is accused of helping Anderson dispose of Jordan’s body.

Coleman pleaded guilty to aiding, abetting, and inducing murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice. She was sentenced last year to 30 years in prison, suspended for five years.

In April 2022, a week after Cairo was allegedly killed, local residents discovered Cairo’s body while foraging for mushrooms in a wooded area.
