An American ICU nurse had a miserable brush of death after a rental moped crashed on a holiday to Thailand, leaving brain bleeding, broken collarbone and crushed teeth.
Sierra Fairhurst, 23, arrived at Boston Logan International Airport in Massachusetts on March 27th two weeks later in Thailand. According to GofundMe, Fairhurst was in a crash that was oped during his holiday in Thailand.
“Even though it's a long journey for her, this may have been completely different. I'm so grateful that she's here and that her brain is at work,” Fairhurst's mother, Zoe Rose, said in her latest GoFundMe update.
“Her face can be fixed, her wounds can heal and her bones can be repaired,” Rose said. “She has the power to overcome all this.”

Fairhurst rented a moped while traveling in a Southeast Asian country. She said Boston 25 It was one moment, they were on the road, and the next moment was not.
She woke up in a foreign hospital with devastating injuries.

“I remember going to see the elephants. We went on ziplining and all the excursions we did, but that's it,” she said. “My eye socket was broken, I lost my eyes, my cheek bones and nose were broken, so it's all metal now.”
After the accident, the 23-year-old nurse was taken to Krabi on the west coast of southern Thailand for treatment. According to Gofundme, she was eventually transported to a facility in Bangkok before returning home.

Rose and Fairhurst brother J arrive in Thailand to help her after the accident. Her identification was lost in the aftermath of the accident, complicating the process.
“The accident and her friend packing her bags and moving with her to the next hospital, leaving all Sierra's status missing,” Rose said. “She doesn't have an ID, Social Security card or passport. Once she's stable, it's essential that she goes home to Boston for the best care and recovers at home with her family.”

With the help of the US State Department, Fairhurst was given the appropriate documents to return to the US
“I know she's very self-conscious about scarring on her face and missing teeth, but she's still coming out in this life, her brain is doing well with healing and she's still beautiful,” she told Boston 25.

When she returned from the trip, Fairhurst went directly to Boston Hospital to be evaluated, and it was determined that she did not need inpatient care.

Fairhurst is scheduled to visit wound clinics and oral and maxillofacial surgeons and be with primary care providers, neurologists, eye plastic surgeons, orthopedic surgeons and cosmetic dentists.
