US Open drink 'The Watermelon Slice' creating a buzz in NYC

Serve M Up!

The US Open has introduced a new drink that’s making waves—watermelon slices mixed with champagne and elderflower liqueur, all served in a quirky $39 cup.

These refreshing drinks are served in bright neon green glasses shaped like tennis balls. The concoction includes Moet & Chandon champagne, fresh watermelon juice, a splash of elderflower liqueur, and garnished with lime and watermelon wedges.

Brook Kruger, 36, shared his thoughts, stating, “I like foam. The aftertaste of watermelon juice is nice. I think I might go for it again. This is my second one compared to the Honey Deuce.” He seemed to be enjoying it enough to consider another round.

One attendee mentioned she didn’t mind spending a bit on this trendy cocktail crafted by the tournament’s official hotel sponsor, IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Celebrities like Brittany Snow and “Zombies” star Meg Donnelly have been seen enjoying these fruity drinks as well.

It’s interesting how the drink’s appeal spans different crowds. Some have noted that if one finds the drink appealing, the price—whether $39 or $23—won’t deter them from indulging.

Lee Sodo, 45, from Morristown, New Jersey, believes this new drink might give the Honey Deuce a run for its money, saying, “It’s not overly sweet and I really like the new cup. It’s tasty.” The Honey Deuce, a long-standing favorite since 2007, features Grey Goose vodka, lemonade, and raspberry liqueur topped with honeydew melon “tennis” balls.
