In some US states, travelers have the opportunity to find their own diamond in the rough.

In July, Will and Marshall Barnett stopped at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas on a road trip to try their hand at mining.

While sifting through the sieve, the father and son found something shiny and pulled out a 2-carat diamond, FOX 10 reported.

“Wet sifting is one of the most effective ways to find diamonds,” park interpreter Ashlyn Keyes said in a press release.

“The search area has two wash pavilions with water troughs and tables for visitors to sift with water. Using screens to separate dirt and gravel allows for more material in less time. ,” Keyes said.

Crater of Diamonds State Park:

Located in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, this park allows visitors to search for treasure in 37 acres of fields. According to the park's website, more than 35,000 diamonds have been discovered by park visitors. The park's visitor center offers guests the opportunity to view uncut diamonds and learn about geology. The cost to find the diamond is $15 for adults and $7 for children.

Ron Coleman Mining:

Roll Coleman in Jesseville, Arkansas, offers visitors not only crystal mining opportunities, but also a zipline experience to view the crystal formations beneath. The center does not rent tools, but you can bring your own or purchase them at the gift shop. Roll Coleman Mining is located just 5 minutes from Hot Springs National Park. Adult crystal hunting costs $25. Tickets are set at $20 for seniors and $5 for children ages 7-15.

Royal Peacock Opal Mine:

This spot in Denio offers travelers the opportunity to mine for opal or mine it themselves. If you're new to digging, our on-site staff will teach you the basics. Mining facilities have limited tools on site, so we recommend bringing your own tools. Prices range from $75 to $190 depending on the type of excavation.

Bonanza Opal Mine Denio, also located in Denio, offers visitors the opportunity to search for opals. The mine is located approximately 5,300 feet above sea level in the northern Nevada desert. You may encounter wild animals during the experience.

The mine's website says: “Examine cavities in above-ground cave walls for signs of early inhabitants and rat swarm burial grounds.” Full-day and half-day mines are offered starting at $50.

Herkimer Diamond Mine:

Herkimer, New York is home to a unique tourist attraction that offers guests the opportunity to search for quartz crystals. According to the mine's website, the stones are nearly 500 million years old. The site also offers to turn newly discovered finds into jewelry on the spot. Prices vary by 3-day pass, starting at $45 for adults and $39 for children.
