World records were broken on the first day of athletics in Paris.
The U.S. mixed 4x400m relay team made history by winning the heats in a big way.
The foursome of Vernon Norwood, Shamire Little, Bryce Dedmon and Kaylin Brown ran the race in 3 minutes, 7.41 seconds, beating the previous record by 1.38 seconds.

This race was just the first heat of the event, so there may be plenty more to come after this great race. The final of the event will take place on Saturday afternoon.
Norwood and Dedmon ran the first and third legs, while Little and Brown were the second and anchor, respectively.

All four runners have ties to SEC schools: Little and Dedmon are both from Texas A&M, Norwood is a Louisiana State University graduate and anchor Brown, just 19 years old, is attending the University of Arkansas.
