USA Today hires dedicated Beyoncé correspondent

BeyHive now has its own beat reporter. USA Today says it has hired journalist Cachet McCray to cover all things Beyoncé.

USA Today Network and The Tennessean said on monday McCray, who previously worked for TMZ and BBC News, said he was chosen from “hundreds of applicants” for the “Formation” gig, which focuses on singers.

According to the media company, the job “requires in-depth reporting.” [Beyoncé Knowles-Carter’s] It’s a complex business and entertainment empire that includes products such as an upcoming film chronicling her Renaissance World Tour that grossed $580 million at the box office, and a new perfume line. ”

McCray, a Howard University graduate, said she grew up “in a Beyoncé household.”

“Beyoncé’s influence has shown us endless possibilities beyond just playing music,” she said.

Tennessee Editor Michael Anastasi said McCray’s hiring will help launch “unparalleled coverage of this incredible businessman and artist.”

The hiring announcement comes just days after Gannett, USA Today’s parent company, revealed it had selected a journalist to focus on reporting on Taylor Swift.

Gannett said Brian West, an Emmy Award-winning producer and self-proclaimed Swift fan, was chosen for the highly publicized job.
