Usain Bolt leaves field on stretcher after suffering ruptured Achilles during charity soccer match

Usain Bolt was seriously injured during a charity football match in London at the weekend and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher.

The 37-year-old Bolt revealed on Sunday that he ruptured his Achilles tendon during a charity match for Soccer Aid. Pictures show the athletics legend taking part in the match and then leaving the pitch afterwards.

The Jamaican was part of the Soccer Aid World XI FC squad alongside Eden Hazard and Tommy Fury, who faced off against an England All-Star side. Bolt played in last year’s match, scoring a goal.

England won 6-3, led by Joe Cole, Ellen White, Stephen Bartlett, Jermain Defoe and Theo Walcott, while Hazard, Alessandro Del Piero and Billy Wingrove scored for Soccer Aid World FC.

The charity has raised more than $19 million for UNICEF.

It has been eight years since Bolt last won an Olympic gold medal. He holds the world records in the 100m (9.58) and 200m (19.19) races. He finished his career with eight Olympic gold medals. He also won 11 gold medals at the World Championships.

Usain Bolt misses a point

In 2018, Bolt began training with the Central Coast Mariners soccer club of the Australian A-League, scoring two goals in a friendly match against an amateur club. He left the club in January 2019, declaring his career as a professional athlete over.
