Usain Bolt proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Kasi Bennett, during a celebration for his 40th birthday. The proposal occurred at One Belmont in Kingston, Jamaica, as reported by local media, including the Jamaica Observer and The Gleaner.
Bolt celebrated his milestone birthday on Friday.
According to photos shared by the Jamaica Observer and Bennett on Instagram, Bolt popped the question while speaking to guests, leaving Bennett visibly stunned. She later shared an Instagram story saying, “This about sums up my night,” along with a playful comment featuring a laughing-crying emoji.
After accepting his proposal, the couple embraced in a heartfelt moment.
Bolt, dressed in a checkered suit, presented Bennett with a five-carat oval-shaped diamond ring, while she looked radiant in a gold dress adorned with silver sequins.
Family and friends witnessed the proposal.
Bennett later uploaded additional photos and clips from the celebration to her Instagram story. In one video, she was seen wiping away tears and dancing, proudly displaying her engagement ring. She also shared a touching message from a friend, Nikolette Williams, highlighting the efforts put into planning the surprise and expressing gratitude for both Bolt and Bennett.
Prior to the celebration, Bennett posted a series of photos on Instagram to honor Bolt’s birthday, including a video featuring their three children: daughter Olympia Lightning Bolt, age 6, and twin sons Thunder Bolt and Saint Leo Bolt, age 5.
“Happy 40th birthday to my person. ❤️ My love, my home, my forever,” she wrote. “You are an incredible dad and truly the center of our little world. Your legacy is extraordinary, but the man behind it will always be what makes me proudest. So grateful to do this fun life we’ve created with you. I love you endlessly, baby. ❤️⚡️”
Bolt and Bennett began their relationship in 2013 but kept it private until the 2016 Rio Olympics, which were Bolt’s final Games in his career. At Rio, Bolt achieved a remarkable “triple-triple,” winning gold medals in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 4×100-meter relay events. His 100-meter record in Rio was 9.81 seconds, and he still holds the Olympic record at 9.63 seconds from 2012 and the overall world record at 9.58 seconds.
The couple became public on social media following a vacation photo Bennett shared from Bora Bora in September 2016.
