Quincy Hall came from behind to win the men’s 400m final, winning his first Olympic gold medal.
This marks the first time the United States has won gold in this event since LaShawn Merritt in 2004. The U.S. swept the medals that year.
It’s the first medal for the United States since Merritt won bronze in 2016.

It’s the fourth individual gold medal in track and field for the United States, joining wins by Noah Lyles (100 meters), Cole Hocker (1500 meters) and Ryan Crouser (shot put).
The 26-year-old finished third at last year’s world championships, where he was part of the gold medal-winning 4x400m relay team.
