USD/JPY Price Forecast: Rises past 149.00 as traders eye key resistance – FXStreet

  • USD/JPY rose 0.34%, extending the two-day gathering, with buyers focusing on the key 150.00 level.
  • While US retail sales data is impressive, weak manufacturing figures make it questionable about the economic momentum.
  • Technical Outlook: Daily closings above 150.00 allow doors to open at 150.67, but support is at 149.00.

USD/JPY rose for the second day in a row, after mixing US economic data, it passed the figure of 149.00 later on Monday, following good retail sales data and the New York Fed Empire State Manufacturing Index report. At the time of writing, the pair is over 0.34%.

USD/JPY Price Forecast: Technical Outlook

The USD/JPY is biased downward despite rebounding to near 146.50. This exacerbated the 250-pipe rally capped by a Tenkan-Sen dynamic resistance of 148.36. The latter is cleared, but the buyer cannot conquer the next key ceiling level seen at 150.00.

The latter one-day closure could drive USD/JPY towards Senkou span A at 149.51, followed by Kijunsen at 150.67.

On the other hand, if you are struggling with USD/JPY at 150.00, your initial support is 149.00. Even more weakness, the seller was able to push the exchange rate towards Tenkan-Sen at 148.36 ahead of 148.00, followed by a LOW on March 13th of 147.41.
