Usha Vance Announces Expecting Fourth Child
Second Lady Usha Vance shared some exciting news on Tuesday: she and her husband, Vice President J.D. Vance, are expecting their fourth child, a son, in late July. This is a significant moment for her role in public office.
The announcement was made in a post on X, where Usha expressed their happiness. Here’s a snippet from her message:
“We are very happy to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy. Usha and the baby are doing well, and we all look forward to welcoming him in late July. A special thank you to our military doctors for their undivided attention during this exciting time, and to our staff for their dedication as we serve our country while enjoying life with our children.”

It’s uncommon for spouses of U.S. presidents and vice presidents to have children while in office. While historical accounts note that two first ladies have given birth during their husbands’ terms—Frances Folsom Cleveland and Jacqueline Kennedy—there’s no recent example of a second lady doing so while serving.
Usha and J.D. Vance, who wed in 2014, already have three children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. This new baby will be their third son.
Usha, a Yale Law School graduate and former clerk for Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh, has taken on a variety of duties as second lady. For instance, in December 2025, she helped Melania Trump and Red Cross organizers assemble care packages for U.S. soldiers. Earlier, in April 2025, she traveled to India with J.D. Vance and their children, emphasizing her roots as the daughter of Indian immigrants. The previous month, she was in Greenland to support expanded U.S. involvement in the Arctic region, a point of focus during Donald Trump’s presidency.
This announcement comes as part of a trend among women in the Trump-Vance administration sharing significant family milestones. Just a few weeks ago, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt also revealed her pregnancy, marking her as the first pregnant press secretary in U.S. history.
