Here’s your morning update.
__________
Hey there, Reader,
Just a quick note before diving in: I won’t be writing tomorrow.
I’m heading south to promote the journalism program I manage in Virginia, so I won’t have the time. You might miss me, huh?
So, what’s going on?
NORMIES
There’s a term that’s become central to the fringe left’s most intense political ideology, and it’s time we start emphasizing it more. Those of us who value Western civilization really should.
Let’s look at some numbers. Almost 40% of New York City’s residents are foreign-born. That’s up 10% since the early 2000s, and it’s quite significant. Similar statistics reveal that 42% are on Medicaid, 20% rely on food stamps, over a third live in “rent-stabilized” apartments, 5% reside in public housing, and an astonishing 25% work for the government or government-funded NGOs.
In 2014, the New York State Medicaid program had 20,000 participants in a home care program for relatives. After a rule change in 2015, that number skyrocketed to 250,000 and has now soared past 620,000. That’s roughly 12% of NYC’s private workforce. And a lot of those 620,000? Immigrants. Sounds a bit fishy, don’t you think?
Now, who’s voting for all these socialists?
Not just Mamdani, but three openly socialist candidates endorsed by Zohran just clinched their primaries for Congress in NYC. One of these candidates, Darializa Avila Chevalier, has been pretty upfront about her desire to dismantle Western civilization, leading some to wonder if Congress will even let her in.
Chevalier’s support came from neighborhoods that are less Hispanic and working-class, where the demographics skews more educated and youthful.
Especially among “downwardly mobile” young white individuals burdened by student debt and degrees that don’t lead anywhere.
Essentially, their only hope for decent employment lies in government jobs or NGOs that serve as middlemen for social services. That’s the reality.
New York City appears to be a political nightmare dominated by a mediocre elite, predominantly young and white, aiming to expand a redistributive state that focuses on rapidly increasing foreign populations.
This is crucial for their survival; without it, they risk becoming powerless, stuck in low-paying jobs forever.
Fortunately, the concept that lies at their ideological core is our strength: “Normativity.”
You’ve likely encountered it before—“heteronormativity” is a common example. This group often includes “educated” critical theorists who apply shallow interpretations of contrarianism to nearly every facet of life.
These folks in New York support word choices like referring to pregnant women as “gestating parents.” Everything they believe revolves around the idea that “normativity” is morally wrong and should be undermined and ultimately eradicated.
Currently, there seems to be a divide among conservatives regarding the socialist trends in NYC. Some think it’s a boon for the GOP, while others worry this fringe group, like last century’s Bolsheviks, could become mainstream.
Indeed, surveys show that many self-identified Democrats lean more toward socialism than moderates.
Both perspectives have merit. There’s urgency for conservatives, but in some ways, this situation serves as an unexpected gift, rooted in the elite leftists’ core assumption: that normalcy is problematic.
According to their thinking, normativity represents a form of “oppression.” This explains their drive to dismantle everything universally accepted: the nuclear family, national borders, capitalism, and even fundamental definitions of language and concepts. For them, gender is just a “construct,” marriage is oppressive, and success equals theft. But somehow, they frame vandalism as the voice of the oppressed.
“Did you know you are a ‘cismale’? Heard that one before?” Norm Macdonald joked with Stephen Merchant in a podcast back in 2016.
“A cisman?”
“Yes, it means you were born a man and identify as such.”
“I’m confused. Is this a new term?” Merchant asked, trying to understand.
“Yes. It’s a way of labeling a normal person,” Macdonald replied.
Speaking of normalcy, something intriguing occurred yesterday.
The New York Times published an article about Usha Vance, titled “The Power of the Pregnant Image.” They depicted Usha and her “stretchy coral dress” as symbols of “pro-natalism,” “family,” and “MAGA optics.”
In response, Usha tweeted a screenshot of the dress, which costs a mere $8.75 from Old Navy.
That’s the latest kerfuffle from New York City’s major newspaper. Usha wearing an inexpensive maternity dress and reading to her children seems to trigger something.
A conservative communicator remarked to me, “The NYT subtly suggesting the political implications of pregnancy, whilst Usha sells an ‘amazing support pillow’ is quite the contrast.”
“Honestly, just be normal. The normies will engage.”
That’s the crux of it. While the radicals may be vocal, they remain a minority. Plus, they often exhibit institutional incompetence. Competent people don’t aspire to make six-figure salaries from ineffective, government-funded NGOs.
What conservatives should focus on is appealing to normalcy. The normies vastly outnumber the radicals—ten to one.
The rest will sort itself out.
