Utah rabbi rehashes sign fiasco during Jazz game as Kyrie Irving’s rep denies star lodged complaint

A Utah rabbi was seen with Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving as security guarded him and three others holding “I'm Jewish and I'm Proud” placards. There is an argument over whether or not charges have been filed against someone.

Irving's representative denied Rabbi Ablemi Zippel's claim that Irving was the one who filed the complaint at the Delta Center during the Mavericks' game against the Utah Jazz.

in Outkick interviewZippel rehashed his account.

“Midway through the second quarter, me and the other guys were walking down the courtside tunnel closest to our seats,” Zippel said. “While we were in the tunnel discussing the incident with jazz organization executives, one of them confirmed that the request to remove the sign had come from the Dallas bench.

“He even named the Jazz's director of team security, who has no connection to arena security, who learned of the request from Dallas personnel and then relayed the request to arena security.

“I would also like to point out that over a dozen (at least) patrons overheard my exchange with Kyrie, including one that said, “You shouldn't bring that sign to the game,'' and that he was also Jewish. It also included a foolish claim to be human.'' He has a Star of David tattooed on his hand.

“We also revealed that Kylie pointed to her Star of David tattoo, said she didn't need the sign, and publicly identified herself as Jewish.”

Irving's attorney denied the claim that the security guard filed the complaint. The rep also told Outkick that Irving has never met Ravi.

The Jazz issued a statement regarding the matter on Tuesday.

“The Utah Jazz Code of Conduct is set in such a way that the game can be played without distractions or disruptions. No matter where someone is in the arena, there will be no distractions or interactions with players that will cause a spark. If there is a sign that does so, we ask that it be removed,'' the team said.

“When a player went out of bounds during the first quarter of yesterday's game between the Jazz and the Dallas Mavericks, the sign triggered an interaction with the player from a group sitting courtside, which created a distraction. As a next step in standard security protocols, fans were asked to remove the signs, but the part-time employee who told the fans that the content of the signs was in question was incorrect. I did.

“The problem was not the content of the sign, but the destructive interactions caused by its use.”
