Valerie Bertinelli is ‘proud’ of her body after ’64 years of gravity’

Valerie Bertinelli is as proud as ever after stripping down to her underwear and uploading a mirror selfie to Instagram.

Bertinelli made a guest appearance on “The Drew Barrymore ShowFriday, referring to a viral post she uploaded earlier this month.

Barrymore's co-host Ross Matthews asked Bertinelli why he decided to upload the racy photo.

“Well, I'm now coming to terms with my aging body, but when I see myself in the light, I'm like, 'Oh, I'm not mad about that.' I thought,” she said.

Bertinelli decided to give Barrymore and viewers a closer look at her body, pulling up her red sweater to expose her belly button.

The gesture drew applause from Barrymore.

“Just like when I do planks and sit-ups, you can see underneath the sagging skin,” Bertinelli said. “But I have to say…this is 64 years of gravity. It's science. If you focus on that photo, you'll see the little sags, and I'm 64 so I'm proud of them.” It's my stomach.''

Bertinelli went on to talk about the comments she has received over the years about her body.

“Why, why, why? And a lot of people say, 'You're too skinny. You're too fat. You're out of shape. You're in shape. Oh my God. I want those abs.' , God, you're ugly. So what I learned is that my father was wrong, and at this age I'm finally okay with it.

“Well, I'm now coming to terms with my aging body, and when I see myself in the light, I'm like, 'Oh, I'm not mad about that.' I thought so.”

“I don't like that I was participating in the brain manipulation that says we have to look a certain way, we have to be a certain weight,” she added. “I'm a size 10. Why am I too thin? I'm a size 10. Why am I too thick? I'm just me. My body.”

On December 2nd, Bertinelli shared a photo of herself posing in front of a mirror wearing only her bra and underwear.

“Someday, I'm going to talk about the craziness my body has been through this year. But for now, every lump, wrinkle, and sag on my body has been accepted and I'm standing in front of a bathroom mirror in a downtown hotel. I'm simply grateful 'Manhattan is ready to color my roots late Monday night,' she captioned the post.

She shares videos and inspiring messages, encouraging her followers to “never forget the miracle of being here.”

“I've always been good at blaming myself for my past and for things I could have done better. I've become a master at judging myself. Dear Judge,” Bertinelli said in the message. The jury became the executioner.

“I don't want to do that anymore. I want to be open to experiencing everything and live a completely authentic life. I don't have to judge anymore. I accept who I am, flaws and all. What makes me who I am?”

Part of her “deliberate” healing journey was the creation of her latest cookbook, “Indulge.” She told People magazine that the healing process was not linear and included “a lot of therapy sessions and a lot of learning that was supposed to make me feel better.”

“First came the work,” she said. “Why I thought I didn't deserve to be loved. Why I was using food to numb my emotions. All the drama and trauma I couldn't deal with with Ed and my last marriage.

“This cookbook was a byproduct of the emotional and spiritual healing I've been doing,” she said. “I know I'm talking about cookbooks, but this cookbook helped me understand everything.”
