Van Jones: Amber Rose RNC speech 'most dangerous' for Democrats

Democratic strategist Van Jones said Monday that model and rapper Amber Rose’s speech was the “most effective” at the Republican National Convention (RNC) and therefore could be the “most dangerous” for Democrats this election cycle.

“It was probably the most dangerous speech for the Democratic coalition,” Jones told CNN on Monday night. “She’s a young woman of color. She’s talking about that feeling that a lot of people experience, that there are too many liberals, that they might criticize you too much, or that you might not be able to speak your mind. And she talked about it really well.”

“She’s much more famous than any of us here. Much more famous, to be honest with you. So to the extent that these people are trying to destroy our coalition, it’s a bunker buster,” said Jones, the CNN commentator.

Speaking at the Republican National Convention on Monday, Rhodes said he had decided to “let go of my fear” of being criticized for supporting Trump. He said he initially thought the former president was a racist, but his father challenged that theory and he researched it further, he said in the speech.

“I realized that Donald Trump and his supporters don’t care if you’re black or white, gay or straight, it’s all about love,” Rose said. “That’s when I realized: These are my people. This is where I belong.”

“So I put aside my fear of being judged, misunderstood or attacked by the left, and put on my red hat,” she added.

The CNN panel praised Rose’s political skills, and Jones said he wouldn’t be surprised if she went into politics in the future.

“The guy is so talented. He knows how to speak plainly, he knows how to work a camera, he knows his rhythm,” CNN commentator and Republican strategist Scott Jennings said in response to Jones. “There’s something about this guy.”

Jones also praised the artist for being able to speak to the American people through the camera without feeling the pressure of having to address large crowds, which would be less effective.

“In any big arena, it’s hard not to want to fill the place up,” Jones says in the clip. Highlighting Article by Mediaite. “But you’re not talking to 30,000 people out there, you’re talking to 30 million people at home. And she was, I mean, the most effective.”

“You hear voices in those halls, but that’s someone’s living room,” he added. “She understood that. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had no political future.”

Trump, who was officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate at the party convention, also chose Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate.
