Van Jones tells CNN audience the truth about Biden that Democrats refuse to say publicly: ‘Full-scale panic’

Democratic activist Van Jones argued Wednesday that Democrats aren’t being honest about what’s going on behind the scenes in the party.

Days after President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance, Democrats have turned to mainstream media to defend him against calls for him to step down as the party’s presidential nominee.

“There’s a big debate going on right now. how “It’s not a matter of if this will happen, but if it will happen.”

But Jones said very different conversations were taking place privately within the party.

The conversation on TV whether Once Biden leaves office, Jones says the real conversation within the party is how The transition from Biden to his successor.

“To be honest with you, everyone goes on air and says great things, but behind the scenes there’s total panic,” Jones says. Said On CNN.

“People are passing around legal memos. There are PDFs flying around on WhatsApp trying to work out what their options are, how do you replace Biden, how do you do it in a way that Biden feels is the respect he deserves, who should be Kamala Harris’ running mate,” he explained. “The conversations on air and the conversations off air are completely different.”

Jones added that Democrats want to “protect” and “defend” Biden while giving him the “dignity” to make his own decision, but that this cannot stop party leaders from privately planning for Biden’s exit.

“There’s a big debate going on right now. how “It’s not a matter of if this will happen, it’s if it will happen,” Jones said.

It’s not clear why more Democrats aren’t speaking out like Jones, but it’s clear why they’re panicking: Biden’s polling was bad before the debate, but it got exponentially worse after.

Not only has Trump significantly increased his lead over Biden in the national polling average; According to FiveThirtyEight:But the Democratic Party’s own internal polling has shown Biden’s approval rating to have dropped significantly, even in states where Democrats have historically won presidential elections.

Biden’s reluctance to step down has led some prominent Democrats, including campaign strategist James Carville, to suggest ways the party could oust the president.

Carville, in a conference call with party donors this week. was suggested Donors are freezing spending on lower-ranking Democratic candidates, incentivizing them to remove Biden from the running. Carville also reframed Biden’s debate performance as a positive in that it gave Democrats an opportunity to act. If it had happened just a month before Election Day, he said, Democrats would have been “more than bruised, messed up and tattooed.”
