Van Orden takes swipe at Roy after Trump backs Johnson in Speaker election

Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) took to social media platform pursued.

Infighting within the Republican Party has intensified in recent days as Johnson seeks to retain his chairmanship and President-elect Trump backs his move.

“@realDonaldTrump received a mandate from the American people in November. @chiproytx did not. It's an America First Agenda, not a Chip Roy First Agenda. It's 'Make America Great Again. ” and not “Making Chip Roy Great.” “President Trump is fighting for America and Chip is fighting to keep his brand marketable,” Van Orden posted on X.

“Some people seem to have to understand that in order to be a leader, you must first learn how to follow.I want to work with Chip, but Chip has a team of “You need to understand that he can be a part of it, but there's no way he's the captain. The captain will be returning to the White House soon and the lieutenant is @SpeakerJohnson,” he added.

The comments came after Mr. Roy remained opposed to Mr. Johnson becoming the next chairman, even after President Trump's support.

“Like many of my colleagues, I remain undecided. There have been so many failures over the past year that I am concerned that our ability to advance the president's policies will be limited or inhibited. “I'm doing it,” Roy said Tuesday on Barney & Company. ” on Fox Business.

Mr Johnson's opponents have raised concerns about his actions on Ukraine and more recently over short-term spending deals struck before Christmas.

The race for the chairmanship is a close one, as Mr Johnson cannot afford to accept too many defectors within his own party.

“At this point, I don't believe he has the right to vote on Friday,” Roy said.
