Vance claims Bolton FBI raid was not an act of revenge

Investigation into John Bolton’s Residence Attack

Vice President Vance stated that the recent attack on the residence of former national security adviser John Bolton shouldn’t be viewed as a retaliation for his political commentary aimed at the Trump administration.

“We’re still in the early stages of looking into John Bolton’s case, and I believe there’s more to uncover,” Vance shared during an interview clip with MSNBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“What I can tell you is that our law enforcement operates based on the law rather than political influences, unlike the Biden DOJ or FBI. If there’s evidence that Ambassador Bolton committed a crime, there will be a proper indictment,” he added.

The complete interview with Kristen Welker is set to air on Sunday, where Vance will discuss questions surrounding Bolton’s investigations.

In recent months, Bolton has voiced criticisms concerning Trump’s foreign policy, particularly regarding his interactions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, suggesting that Putin knows how to appeal to “Trump’s heart.”

His frequent appearances on cable news have led to speculations that the recent attacks on his home near Washington were linked to his roles in current diplomatic efforts.

However, Vance dismissed those claims, asserting that the investigations are related to classified documents that might be found at Bolton’s residence. Both Trump and former administration officials have faced allegations of mismanagement of sensitive materials in the past.

“We’re looking into Ambassador Bolton, and if charges are eventually filed, it will be because we believe he broke the law. We’re proceeding with caution,” Vance noted in response to potential actions from the Department of Justice.

“It’s vital that we be careful—throwing people in prison isn’t something we advocate for, even if they don’t share our political views,” he emphasized.

“The law should guide our decisions, and that’s how we approach this.”

On Friday, President Trump mentioned he was unaware of the incidents at Bolton’s home, claiming he wouldn’t be involved in the ongoing investigation.

“I don’t know anything about it. I just saw the news this morning about the attack,” Trump told reporters, referring to Bolton as “not patriotic.”

“I say [Attorney General Pam Bondi] and while I don’t want to be involved, sometimes you must do what’s necessary. I don’t feel the need to know everything. I could get involved; I’m technically the top law enforcement officer. But I think this is fine as it is,” Trump added.
