Vice President J.D. Vance Looks Ahead to 2028

Vice President J.D. Vance shared plans to talk with his wife, Usha Vance, about the 2028 presidential race following the midterm elections in November.

In a recent interview with CBS, Vance, who is 41, responded to questions about his political future while promoting his memoir, Holy Communion: Finding the Way Back to the Faith.

“Usha and I are definitely going to sit down and talk about what’s next for our family,” Vance noted, specifying that these discussions would take place after the midterms. “People seem to think that I sit and think about whether or not to run for president…The way I make decisions is that I try not to make them until I absolutely have to. I doubt that the President of the United States will be very supportive of my eventual decision. No…I never bring it up. But certainly, the president brings it up a lot, sometimes in public, sometimes privately. He loves this. He’s fascinated by it.”

When probed further about Trump’s vision for the Republican Party, Vance emphasized that the president is always considering the future.

“It’s just…he says things like, ‘What’s going to happen?’ ‘How do we make sure we’re successful? What does that mean for the future?’ It’s more of a conversation like that,” Vance explained.

Trump has also speculated about a potential future ticket involving both Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, suggesting the idea of them running together.

A national poll from May 2026 by Emerson College indicates a tight race between Vance and Rubio, with Vance holding a slight lead of one percentage point among potential Republican voters.

However, the immediate campaign outlook is quite uncertain for Vance. According to reports, a source close to him mentioned that personal factors, especially the upcoming birth of his fourth child, a boy expected in late July, will greatly influence his decision.
