Vice President JD Vance Reflects on Charlie Kirk’s Legacy

Vice President JD Vance shared heartfelt memories of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was tragically shot while speaking at Utah Valley University. In a lengthy post on X, Vance honored his late friend, calling him a man of “courage,” “faith,” and profound loyalty.

Kirk, who co-founded and led Turning Point USA, was not just a political strategist for Vance; he was also his best friend. Their journey together began with skepticism toward Donald Trump back in 2016 and continued to encompass the excitement of the 2024 campaign trail.

In Vance’s social media statements, he illustrated Kirk’s significant impact—not just on the conservative movement but also on shaping the Trump Vance alliance.

“Charlie was always curious about ideas, constantly learning and open to changing his views,” Vance wrote. “Like me, he was skeptical of Trump initially but later recognized him as the one who could shift American politics away from the globalism that constricted our lives.”

Amid the tragedy of Kirk’s passing, Vance emphasized the need for healing. He reflected deeply on their conversations, recalling how Kirk was one of the first people to support him when he considered running for the Senate in early 2021. They discussed everything from strategy to community outreach.

Kirk’s influence was notable, particularly in 2024, as he played a crucial role in shaping Trump’s decisions regarding his running mate.

“When I was running for VP, Charlie was a major advocate for me, both publicly and privately,” Vance recalled. “He consistently checked in on our families and provided us with guidance and prayers.”

Vance praised Kirk’s unwavering faith, noting his genuine belief in Jesus Christ. Their discussions often touched on the differences between Catholicism and Protestantism, reflecting Kirk’s desire for understanding and connection. He appreciated the authenticity of their friendship, emphasizing that confiding in Kirk meant it would be kept close to heart.

Additionally, Vance acknowledged how Kirk’s organizing skills greatly contributed to the administration’s successes, saying many achievements could be traced back to Kirk’s ability to bring people together.

After learning of the shooting, Vance shared conversations he had with President Trump, who recognized the depth of Vance and Kirk’s friendship. “The president observed that Charlie truly loved his family,” Vance said. “He was right.”

Vance described the moment he found out about the shooting, stating that it was during a meeting at the White House when he started receiving messages that people were praying for Kirk. “God didn’t respond to those prayers in the way we hoped, but perhaps He had other plans,” Vance reflected. “Now Charlie is in heaven, and I hope he speaks on behalf of his family and friends.”

In closing, Vance said, “You ran a good race, my friend. We’ve got it from here.” Kirk had once stated he wanted to be remembered “for courage, for my faith.” For those mourning his loss, this legacy will surely resonate.
