Vance’s Thoughts on Rubio and Administration Challenges

In a recent chat on “Pod Force One,” Vice President J.D. Vance shared his views on Secretary of State Marco Rubio, dubbing him “my best friend in the administration,” all while reacting to President Trump’s lighthearted comments about their potential 2028 ticket.

During the interview with The Post’s Miranda Devine, Vance, at 41, recalled a lunch meeting he had with Trump about six months ago, where they joked about Rubio’s chances for the presidency. “We like to catch up every few weeks to stay updated on things,” Vance explained regarding his discussion with the president.

Trump had supposedly floated the idea of a Vance-Rubio ticket during their conversation, but Vance noted that he felt it was a bit premature to think about that just yet.

“Generally, I tell people that if we focus on doing our jobs, the political outcomes will take care of themselves,” Vance remarked. “It’s been about nine months since we took office, and we’ve accomplished a fair amount.” Still, he expressed concerns about the economic situation left by Biden, stressing the need to make life more affordable for Americans.

“We’re making strides, but there’s a long way to go. My priority is fulfilling my responsibilities as vice president for the next three years and a bit more,” he added.

Vance emphasized the importance of not getting embroiled in political strategies too soon. “If future plans come up, we’ll handle them when they do. For now, let’s focus on doing the right thing for the country,” he said.

In light of the 2024 election, the Trump-Vance team exceeded expectations against Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in critical battlegrounds and even won the popular vote nationally.

When asked whether Vance-Rubio dynamics might spark tension, he dismissed the idea, asserting that they are close allies in the administration. “We collaborate frequently,” he mentioned. “A lot of our progress comes from working together.” Their initiatives, for instance, include diplomatic efforts in Europe aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the tensions involving Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Vance also cautioned against excessive political worries interfering with their roles. “I don’t want to wake up fixated on becoming president. Instead, it’s about doing a good job as vice president,” he noted, adding that Rubio likely shares that mindset as Secretary of State.

Looking ahead to the 2028 election, Vance is reportedly leading in the polls, often with significant margins over potential Republican contenders, as indicated by recent polling analyses.
